Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Your Beauty Is Our Profession.

No need to Google ‘how to stop sweating’ anymore…

Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating. It can be localised or affect the whole face and body. Sweating is controlled by the brain, which sends signals along nerves called “sympathetic nerves” to the small sweat glands in the skin. These nerves are part of the “autonomic nervous system” which controls many unconscious body functions.

Localised symmetrical hyperhidrosis (primary hyperhidrosis) is the most common type of hyperhidrosis, this affects certain body sites (localised), and both sides equally (symmetrical). The palms, soles, underarm skin, face and scalp, or a combination of these, can be affected by excessive sweating. The cause is not known. It usually begins in childhood or adolescence and may improve with age. This type of hyperhidrosis is also called focal or primary hyperhidrosis.

What is botulinum toxin and how does it treat hyperhidrosis?

Botulinum toxin is a prescription neurotoxin medication that is injected superficially with a tiny needle directly into underarm tissue, blocking the nerve impulse from reaching that area. As a result, the sweat glands are inactivated, and sweat is not produced in the treated area. It’s a quick, easy, and nonsurgical way to treat excessive underarm sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. botulinum toxin contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum.

Which parts of the body does botulinum toxin treat?

Botulinum toxin can be used to treat severe underarm sweating. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Is Botulinum toxin injections right for me?

Botulinum toxin is a safe and effective treatment for adult men and women of all ages. It is particularly helpful for people who want to avoid invasive surgical procedures. You should not have the injections if you have had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product or have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

What will happen on my botulinum toxin injection treatment day?

The botulinum toxin injection process takes about 15 minutes depending on how much of the product will be injected. Some patients report that being injected with botulinum toxin feels like a pinch. Your practitioner may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

After your treatment, you can immediately resume regular activities.

How many botulinum toxin injection treatment sessions will I need?

Botulinum toxin injection treatment lasts up to four months, and most patients receive another treatment as soon as they begin to experience the return of their symptoms.

How soon will I see the results of botulinum toxin injections and how long does it last?

You will notice a gradual and cumulative decrease in sweating within a week after your botulinum toxin injection treatment.  Results will last up to four months.
